Into the Blue

Although I don't typically like cool colors, I do love different shades of turquoise. But the best part about combining any shade of blue with a color or palette of colors is warming it up. So in this look I added pops of warm colors such as the earth/brown bag and mustard yellow beenie. In this look I focused on this versatile floral piece from Forever 21 that can be a short dress or a long shirt if paired with pants. The tornasol aviator glasses are from American Eagle Outfitters, the yellow beenie from Hot Topic, the bag from Urban Outfitters, the lightning ring from Brandy Melville, the Turquoise ring from So Good Jewelry and the bone ring from an artisan in Colombia. Black shoes are from Aldo.

Rainbow Bright

I love mixing crazy colors with neutrals as I've mentioned before. Specially when it involves some of my favorite bohemian pieces with a twist of Italian street fashion. In this look, I've incorporated a couple of pieces from Forever 21 such as the crochet rainbow top, a lucky brand blue blazer/jacket, Steve Madden animal print shoes and vintage clutch and hat from catherine's Closet Vintage boutique in downtown Honolulu. The arm party bracelets are mostly from So Good Jewelry in the Waikiki Trade Center.ALSO, Don't forget to begin following me on my blog at DISfunkshionmagazine.com. I will switch over completely in a couple of days! You can find my blog here.

Globe Trotting

One of my favorite things to do is to travel and getting wearable souvenirs that become conversation starters. This look reminds me of just that. Aviator sunglasses, RayBan. Aloha Shirt, vintage shop in Hawaii. Shorts, Miami thrift store. Handbag, bazaar in India. Feathered necklace and studded vest, Forever 21. So go ahead, get inspired, get creative and mix things you normally wouldn't! =)

Denim Craze

Ever since I got this denim shirt from Gap (I think), its been sitting in my closet waiting for the right combination. Ideally I could find some cool safari inspired look, but that just hasn't been the case. It just so happens that I've been in a somewhat minimalist mood lately which has transformed into a fully classic aesthetic with bright pops and ethnic touches as mentioned in my previous post. The beenie is from Charlotte Russe, bag from Aldo, off white eyelet dress from Forever 21 and bracelets from Siam Imports.

Neutral-vs-Nature

I love this look because it goes against all rules. Black and browns, stripes and other prints, an much more! These are some of my favorite and most comfy pieces. Who says style can't be comfortable? One of my wardrobe theories is that if it doesn't match, I'm wearing it. I just really have a thing where I can't be too matchy-matchy. The top and bolo tie necklace is from a thrift store in Miami, skirt is from Forever 21, shoes are from Traffic, handbag is from Lucky Brand and my glasses and belt are from my mother's lovely vintage collection, which she lets me raid every so often. =)

A Little of This and That...

I love being able to mix classic and basic pieces with splashes of color and statement jewelry. I think it makes for a sort of grown-up, yet eclectic and playful style. The hat is an original Biltmore from one of my favorite vintage stores in Hawaii, Catherine's Closet Vintage Boutique. The glasses are also vintage and used to belong to my beautiful mother. Top is from Brandy Melville. The skirt, handbag and accessories are from Forever 21.Shoes are from Charlotte Russe. I love finding bargains.

Terra-Cotta

I'm completely infatuated with this terra-cotta colored blazer from Forever 21. I think its such a greatly versatile piece that will match with just about anything. I'm also really loving these blue high waisted american apparel shorts. The bag is from Charlotte Russe and it has bohemian patches of patterns and floral designs on the strap.

Bird of Paradise

Right now I am in love with this "bird of paradise" inspired long skirt that I found at Forever 21. The crochet top is from Catherine's Closet Vintage Boutique and the handbag as well as the accessories are from Salvation Army. Ohhh, the comfy platform wonders are also from Forever 21.

Nalani Shoot

This past week we had the most amazing shoot with Nalani, a gorgeous, talented, heart-warming young woman, originally from Hawaii. She worked with Disfunkshion a couple of years back in one of our fashion shows and has been traveling the world and modeling in major cities such as Tokyo, Miami, LA and New York for the last 2 years. She came for a couple of days and we could't pass up the opportunity to work together again. The editorial that we shot will be released in our February issue. These were just some instagram shots I took while the shoot actually went on.

People...

People are often unreasonable and self-centered. Forgive them anyway. If you are kind, people may accuse you of ulterior motives. Be kind anyway. If you are honest, people may cheat you. Be honest anyway. If you find happiness, people may be jealous. Be happy anyway. The good you do today may be forgotten tomorrow. Do good anyway. Give the world the best you have and it may never be enough. Give your best anyway. For you see, in the end, it is between you and God. It was never between you and them anyway.

Leathers and Feathers

I am obsessing over this designer's etsy shop. The leather bags are beautiful, classic, boho, and VERY detailed. The store is called Twisted Tree Studio and they offer a wide range of styles and shades of leather. Whenever I can afford a splurge, this might be worth while.

News, letters, fashion and all things better...

So in a couple of days we will be launching our FIRST newsletter featuring Disfunkshion Magazine's Face of the Month (October). Every month we will be choosing a different girl who is phenomenal as an integral part of showcasing impacting young women who are more than just a pretty face. Ashley Mendham is our October girl and you'll be able to check her out in four bohemian-inspired looks that we put together for you. A look will be released each week, but in order for you to see the looks and find out where to find the pieces in each look, you must be subscribed to our email list. If you haven't already, you can do that here.

In the meantime, check out some behind the scenes shots of our shoot and our staff acting like clowns! =)
